On the one hand, watching J.J. Abrams staring at a monitor and then exclaiming, “That was excellent!” or “Very nice!” every few minutes gets kind of tiring after awhile. On the other hand, this is the first Star Trek Into Darkness promo that doesn’t begin with Benedict Cumberbatch saying, “You think your world is safe?”, so that counts for something.
Of particular interest is the section beginning at 3:50. We’ve already seen a fragment of this scene a few weeks ago. But what you probably didn’t realize from watching that clip is how good the boom mic operators are at re-directing the mic at whoever is talking. Their performance is on full display here, and it nearly upstages Chris Pine. Whatever they’re paying them, it isn’t enough.
